It might feel like warmer weather is still months away, but in the world of fashion, Spring 2019 has officially arrived. We’re tracking every single campaign from the season — keep up with us here.
For Miu Miu’s latest advertising campaign, the brand took its unabashedly feminine Spring 2019 wares to the not-so-glamorous depths of public transportation with a cast comprised from the worlds of cinema, dance, music and fashion, including actresses Juliette Lewis and Zazie Beetz, model and former ballerina Du Juan, Madonna‘s daughter Lola Leon and Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman’s daughter Maya Hawke.
Entitled, “Somewhere, Nowhere,” the campaign focusses on individuality and the ephemeral nature of fashion itself. “Neither arriving nor departing, these images celebrate the notion of simply being — the geography hazy, the timing uncertain, they present a universal, everywhere and anytime,” the press release accompanying the campaign explains. “Fleeting and transitory, reasoning uncertain, the travel could easily be an escape, or a coming home. The only concrete, the only constants, are the women themselves — singular, original, always unique.”
To convey this visually, David Sims photographed the four women situated within the universal topography of vintage-looking buses, trains and cars moving through an unidentified city. Yet, despite traveling through what appears to be a chaotic urban landscape, the sitters seem calm, cool and collected. They are also dressed far fancier than your average commuter: headbands bedazzled and bedecked with bows, along with knee socks and sequined pencil skirts take the spotlight.
