Anthony Davis has been the prime candidate to become the Los Angeles Lakers second superstar alongside LeBron James but might not ever land in LA.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been connected to a two-superstar plan way before the team even landed the first superstar in LeBron James. Today’s NBA is so superstar driven that to even come close to truly contending you have to at least have two bona fide stars on the roster.
The possible candidates of who that star could be has been a revolving door of names, some sticking around longer than others. The most likely second star seemed to be Paul George, who signed an extension with Oklahoma City.
Kawhi Leonard also had serious ties to the Lakers and could still join the team in free agency next offseason, although that seems unlikely.
The most recent megastar to be heavily tied to the Los Angeles Lakers has been Anthony Davis. The speculation first started after Davis left his old agency to get represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group, the same agency that represents LeBron James.
Those connections have grown stronger as the New Orleans Pelicans have continued to prove that they might not be able to build a true winner around Davis. While Davis is still under contract, the power of the player is so prevalent in the NBA and he could easily force a trade.
Once that happens, Davis can sign a max extension with the Lakers and the team would have its new super team, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
However, there is a fair probability that Davis won’t ever wear the purple and goal and it will instead be Bradley Beal that gets called upon to be the team’s second star.
Beal is not on the same MVP level as Davis, that is without question. However, he could still be the second-best player on a title-contending team. Here are three reasons why Bradley Beal might end up being the route the Lakers take.
