Just a few short weeks into the off-season, Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal rejected the Dodgers $17.9 million offer. Earlier this week, NL rival Milwaukee Brewers announced that they have signed the former Dodger to a one-year contract worth $16 million. The deal also includes a $16 million mutual option for 2020 or a $2.25 million buyout.
Tuesday morning, Grandal took to Instagram to bid his farewell to the city of Los Angeles, the fans, and the Dodgers organization.
While it was very thoughtful of Grandal to thank and appreciate the club and fans for his time in Los Angeles, I found it a bit odd that he added “Milwaukee Brewers, Let’s do this! #ThisIsMyCrew”. Come on Yasmani, I understand you’re excited for a new chapter in your life, but save the excitement for another post. That had to be a little bit of shade thrown towards his former team.
Grandal, 30, spent the first three years of his career in San Diego with the Padres followed by a four-year stint in Los Angeles with the Dodgers. During those four seasons, he accumulated a .238 batting average, .790 OPS, 89 long balls, and a 2015 All-Star appearance.
