Father David Gallardo, the cathedral’s pastor, concelebrated with the archbishop.
Gomez, leader of the archdiocese of Los Angeles, celebrated the traditional Midnight Mass as Christmas Day arrived at the Downtown cathedral early Tuesday, another Mass at mid-day at the cathedral in Spanish, as well as services at the Women’s Jail in Lynwood and at the Men’s Central Jail, not far from the cathedral.
The archdiocese comprises Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, an area more than 4 million Catholics call home.
