Los Angeles Lakers have been keeping close tabs on the power forward and are said to be considering a move this season.
But they only have until February 7 to complete any prospective deal.
It is thought the Lakers would have to offer up a number of key stars to land their target.
However, Luke Walton’s team will have to rethink their strategy as a move for Davis appears off the cards this term.
“They shouldn’t and won’t, mostly because I don’t know what big trade there is to be made at this point,” Pelton told ESPN.
“I’d consider it extremely unlikely Anthony Davis will be traded at the deadline.
“And the Lakers should certainly wait to see whether Davis is attainable before making another blockbuster trade.”
Davis is frustrated with the Pelicans as they continue to languish near the foot of the Western Conference.
If the 25-year-old becomes available for trade in the summer the Lakers will likely face an increase in competition.
Boston Celtics are interested in Davis but they cannot make a move this campaign.
And Celtics legend Paul Pierce has backed his former side to pip the Lakers to the post.
“That would be a great move,” he told Express Sport.
A lot of optimism surrounds teams like Boston and Los Angeles Lakers with Anthony Davis.
“Who knows where he is going to end up, if he ends up anywhere.
“But both of them teams could use a player like him if they want to get over the hump and make it to the Championship,” Pierce added.
“To win a Championship, he could be the X-factor. If something like that happens that happens they have got a good shot.”
