Though BAPE can boast countless fans across the globe, the Japanese label actually isn’t stocked in a wide range of countries, due in part to its "really selective distribution," Riccardo Tortato recently told WWD. "Bape’s management selects one-by-one every single retail account based on the brand assortment and customer demographics.”
Tortato, the fashion director for menswear and e-commerce at Moscow’s Tsum department store, has accomplished the enviable achievement of becoming the first dedicated Russian BAPE stockist. Tsum is commemorating the occasion with a special pop-up shop, placing the Japanese imprint at the forefront of the shopping center, complete with window displays and a camo-covered Bentley.
“I can feel that Bape today is at its peak," Tortato continued. "Everyone wants it. I was even more convinced when I started seeing the famous Bape shark hoodie here in Moscow, and I am sure that Bape will outperform when our client will have the access to it.”
Following the pop-up shop, Tsum will continue to stock BAPE’s wares, beginning with the Spring/Summer 2019 collection. View the retailer’s BAPE selection on the Tsum’s website.
Most recently, we went inside BAPE & adidas’ pre-Super Bowl Atlanta pop-up.
