Coming to party
Chef May Chow, winner of the 2017 World’s 50 Best Asia’s Best Female Chef (woof) award for 2017, is cooking in Los Angeles soon. The owner of the extra-busy Hong Kong spot Little Bao is coming to Sari Sari Store inside Grand Central Market for a pop on Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24, running all day both days. The menu will flip to some of Chow’s favorites, including lamb tartare, Szechuan fried mushrooms, a Szechuan fried chicken bao, an Impossible bao, and an ice cream bao collaboration with Margarita Manzke. It’s going to be a busy weekend at Grand Central Market, apparently.
Go back in time
Nostalgia-based restaurant pop-ups are all the rage in Los Angeles right now. Case in point: Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is hosting a Central Perk cafe pop-up at two of its area locations (Third Street Promenade and another at 8793 Beverly Blvd.) that runs for one week starting this Friday. There will be throwback drinks, lots of merch, and chances to take photos inside the shop from the famous Friends set, of course.
There’s still time
Speaking of nostalgia, the Peach Pit pop-up on Melrose has earned an extension. The limited-time restaurant will reopen this Friday, and stay up and running through September.
More meals
There’s a new food truck running around Los Angeles as of last weekend, and it’s staffed by none other than Gavin Mills. The former Barbrix and Miro lead is now doing Italian food using only that day’s market ingredients, meaning there may be gnocchi one day, arancini and salads another, and on and on. Catch them next weekend at Frogtown Brewery.

Friends that cook together
The Sunday in Brooklyn team is heading to Freedman’s for a pop-up tomorrow night. It’s a bit of a preview of the NYC company’s upcoming reveal of West Coast project Sibling Rival, opening inside the Hoxton hotel in Downtown Los Angeles soon.
Downtown drinking
Garrison Brothers Distillery is hosting a bourbon dinner at Miro on Wednesday. The $117 affair covers a variety of the company’s small-batch bourbons, along with a multi-course meal.
More alcohol
In other booze news, Denner Vineyards is doing a winemaker night at Severance on Melrose later this month. The August 22 event features a variety of pours from the Paso Robles-based producers, along with passed apps and cheese and charcuterie for $58 a head.
On the cheap
Blackship in West Hollywood has a new happy hour to know about. Running 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, the reduced-price offering includes a menu where diners can get three different items for $21, from glasses of sauvignon blanc to Niman Ranch meatballs. The happy hour menu is below.
