After making history last week by becoming the first musician since The Beatles to nab the top three spots on the Billboard 100 — thanks to hit singles “7 Rings,” “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored,” and “thank u, next" — Ariana Grande is continuing on a record-breaking February. The singer recently became the most followed woman on Instagram, notching over 146,000,000 followers as reported by Mashable.
At the time of initial reporting, Grande had logged a whopping 146,355,023 followers, ousting Selena Gomez who was formally the most followed woman with 146,295,281 followers. The Sweetener singer has racked up even more fans since the news broke, with her Instagram follow count jumping to 146,394,932. Gomez’s base is also on the rise, with the artist up to 146,305,204 followers and counting at the time of writing. The "Wolves" singer publicly announced a social media hiatus in September 2018, which lasted until January 14 and may have attributed to Grande’s ascent.
Still, the most followed person on Instagram overall goes to Cristiano Ronaldo — who notably nabbed the crown from Gomez in October 2018. The Portuguese soccer player currently stands at 155,967,622 followers on the social media platform.
In other news, Grande was recently named International Female Solo Artist at the 2019 BRIT Awards.
