Function-driven Arc’teryx has been a label favored by adventurers and techwear fans for years, and though the company has always catered towards progressive ideals, its latest initiative may be Arc’teryx’s most environmentally-friendly move yet. As part of the brand’s drive to avoid unnecessary waste, it has introduced an upcycling program dubbed "Rock Solid Used Gear."
A nod to Arc’teryx’s original name, the Rock Solid drive will see used performance gear find its way to new owners. As part of the initiative, Arc’teryx will buy pre-owned items, clean and/or repair items that need a little TLC and then resell the goods at a lower cost. Fans will be able to mail in or drop off their old Arc’teryx pieces at local stores, where staff will evaluate the items on a case-by-case basis.
Though there are stipulations, the goal is to make sure that all the donated clothes and tools are utilized thoughtfully. For instance, if the inner label is still attached and the items are in lightly-worn-to-excellent condition may net their owners a gift card for 20% of the items’ original retail price. If donated items are unable to be resold, but still functional, they’ll be donated to outdoor organizations that need gear. Rock Solid program participants may also be able to trade in products down the road, exchanging their own items for new pieces in different colors as their tastes and needs shift.
Shop the upcycled items on Arc’teryx’s Rock Solid website if you’re in America. The Canadian company aims to bring the program to the Great White North in the coming months.
