Following its impressive Spring/Summer 2019 debut, Japan’s ANEI strikes back for Fall/Winter 2019 with another impressive curation of louche looks. Elegant comfort is the name of the game, with a variety of versatile seasonal essentials.
Conventional staples like bomber and fleece jackets are given a premium twist via relaxed cuts and luxurious fabrication, both informed by designer Yu Haneishi’s time spent as a patternmaker for labels like visvim and Y-3. Traditional Japenese silhouettes are reworked with a contemporary bent, including flowing haori coats and billowing hakama trousers, with natural textiles — cotton, linen and wool — ensuring rich textures across the neutral color palette.
Elsewhere, slouchy parkas and long-sleeved shirts with thumbholes hint at militaristic inspiration, complemented by zipped flight pockets and waffle-knit base layers. A variety of adjustable straps accent most pieces of outerwear, complementing the visual interest of uneven-hemmed base layers, all anchored by sharp cropped pants and trim turtlenecks.
The FW19 collection launches later this year at ANEI’s Japanese stockists — international customers will have to hope that items are made available on the global Rakuten market.
Elsewhere in the island nation, mastermind JAPAN teased a forthcoming collaboration with The Rolling Stones.
