The Major League Soccer‘s social responsibility platform, MLS WORKS, has just announced that its fourth annual Greener Goals Week of Service will commence this week and continue until the end of Earth Day. The Green Goals initiative explores ways to reduce MLS’ greenhouse gas footprint while raising awareness about environmental issues throughout the sport’s community. As part of the Week of Service, MLS clubs and staff will be volunteering and partnering up with local charities to give back to the community.
To celebrate this week and Earth Day, MLS has also worked with adidas and Parley — which recycles marine plastic waste to make garments — to create special limited edition eco-friendly kits. All 24 clubs will be sporting these environmentally-friendly kits during their games on Earth Day weekend, which takes place from April 19-21. The team shirts are built with adidas’ Climalite technology and are made from yarns comprised of Parley Ocean Plastic™.
MLS says that it collaborated with adidas and Parley for the Oceans with the aim of encouraging soccer fans to decrease single-use plastic usage, and to raise awareness for plastic pollution, and the importance of changing human attitude towards the planet.
The adidas x Parley limited edition team kits are currently available for purchase exclusively at MLSstore.com, adidas.com, and various stadium shops.
