HBX has linked up with ASICS for a co-branded take on the GEL-KAYANO 5 OG silhouette. Taking inspiration from the 1990s — the era in which the silhouette was first released — the collaborative sneaker features a Web 1.0 aesthetic, and nods to the 1999 launch of Internet Explorer 5, early social networking sites and dystopian sci-fi movies of that time.
Referencing the transition to a more computerized world that occurred during that time, the sneaker is wrapped in a mostly white upper. This is offset by colored panelling on each side, including tonal green suede patches and blue mesh. Lastly, the sneaker is finished with ASICS branding in red.
The HBX x ASICS GEL-KAYANO 5 OG is set to release on May 31, and will be available from the HBX web store and physical store in Hong Kong. The collaborative sneaker will also be previewed with a ’90s-inspired campaign and an in-store preview complete with a 1999-style experience from May 24.
